Glacier II plow any good??????
#11
I too had a glacier 2 on my 700, and the mount bent very easily. I don't recall ever hitting anything with it, and at the end of winter there was a very noticeable bend in the mount plate. I now have a glacier 1 on my 800, and while it doesn't lift as high, i'm confident that i'll be able to use this one for longer than one winter without replacing parts....

My local Polaris dealer told me they have a bunch of new-and-improved Glacier 2 mounting plates on order. (currently on backorder)
Supposedly they are stronger than the current Glacier2 plates. I am waiting to look at one to judge it for myself.
I plowed last winter with the G2 on my Sportsman X2 and had the same trouble that almost everyone else had with the mounting plate bending. No newbie here, been plowing for decades.
I would highly advise that you avoid the G2 at this time.
Ever wonder why your local dealer has plenty of blades and angle brackets in stock but no mounting plates in stock for a Sportsman500 or X2? Think about it! LOL!

A few weeks back I picked up my Polaris with G2 mount and 60" Razor Blade, I soon got it back to the garage and to my surprise the bolt that mounts the bracket was broken off. (NEVER USED THE ATV YET) The bolt is supposed to be welded to the frame and you tighten it from the inside, the mechanic totally stripped the bolt from the inside and left the outside bolt loose! I'm going back to the dealer tomorrow to have a new plate mounted.. I was not very happy.
Secondly, When I have the blade down to the pavement the frame arms are nearly touching the pavement is this correct?

I would like to know if the WARN Provantage arms are that close to.

Had mine out in the snow for the first time today and like most others on the thread, it bent! Wish I would've read before buying. Lifts nice and high which is great for getting it on the trailer and backing out of deep snow, but they really need to beef it up.

Speaking of plows, my rig is in the garage sans tracks and plow and it just dumped a foot of snow in Maine. I've got to get a six pack and head out to the garage.

I got a Moose plow for my XP and bent it in half the first season. I've heard Polaris redesigned the Glacier II, but who knows.

I will be quite vocal if it's just as bad as the old G2 plate.
BTW, the new plate has a extra rib welded along the perimeter of the bottom of the plate. It's easy to see the difference between the two.
IF you guys are going to take a chance and buy the G2 set-up, just be sure to get the newly re-designed plate!
