Exclamation Winch Fairleads

Which type of winch fairlead is better the Hawse ones or the roller ones. The hawse ones are just flat steel with rounded edges. i use my winch mostly fo plowing so any info will be appreciated thanks, Polaris man with issues

i have owned both. in my opinion, i like the roller one better. i think it puts less stress on the cable via the rolling part. and also seems to spool better if you are ever at an angle. just my thoughts. good luck PB500

Do you have steel or synthetic line? I would use a roller type for steel but for the synthetic I think I would go with the hawse. IMO. If you have a steel line now and decide to swap out for synthetic you'll want to replace the fairlead you have now.

Ditto on readymixer's post. If you go with synthetic be sure to get the amsteel brand. If you watch ebay you can pick up 50' with the hawse for $50. Also, for plowing pick up the 10' length. Saves on cable wear/tear. Most sellers on ebay will offer it for an additional $10.

It's been said, but bottom line is hawse is for synthetic and rollers are for steel lines.
Cheers,

ill agree with this^^^^^. i just got the 10' synthetic rope for plowing, and i got a plastic roller fairlead. i still dont agree with the alum hawse ones. it just dont seem right. as the more stress you add to that rope the more friction its gona have on the fairlead. just seems to me the rollers is the way to go. im waiting for snow to try out the new winch rope....... but i forsee it being alot better than steel for plowing anyways.

I have used sythetic rope with roller fairlead for quite some time now and have never had a issue.

The synthetic rope works fine on a roller as long as you dont have to pull at an angle where it isn't on the roller. Got the hawse with my last syn cable I bought and haven't had any issues with it. I also have yet to break the syn on either of the wheelers I had it on which is a lot more than I can say for steel(especially plowing).
