Default Winch and Plow Question

I have a polaris 400 with a warn plow and base. Now running the winch up is there any way to stop it from coming up too far? The base tube will hit the bottom of the frame if i go to far. Is there anything i can do to stop this from happening? Probably not but i am just wandering. Finally got some snow and wow So much easier than a snowblower.

well, I have plow markers on mine, but I can usually gauge where to stop, by eyeballing it while sitting on the seat, and after part of a season you won't even think about it, but I did take some rubber belting and zip tie around the tubes, where it would hit the frame, so if it did hit, it has a little squish to it, and it won't chip the paint off

Can you get some kind of short strap to go between the two? Maybe i need to come up with some short piece that will stop it from going higher. It wouldn't have to be that long maybe only a foot long or so.

Try to find a short heavy duty spring to go between the plow and winch hook. It'll act as a shock absorber when the tubes bottom out. Takes a lot of stress off of the cable.

Like 700 sportsman, I've learned to eyeball mine. When the plow is straight, and I lift it to point where the top of the plow blade is even with the front rack, I know I don't want to go any further. It's a little more difficult with the blade angled. When it's angled, I just give the winch switch one bump for about a second... just enough to get it a couple inches off the ground... that's all you need.

For sure, you want to come up with something, as bottoming the winch out is not a good thing.

Excellent idea Chuck. I'm looking for a spring as we speak.
