Default Slapping chain

Help! The chain on my 325 Trail Boss slaps against the tranny housing and rear sub frame. At first I thought it was because the rear shock was bad. Replaced it and still have the same problem. (Although it does ride better) The chain is not loose or to tight.

Any ideas or thoughts greatly appreciated!

Thought I'd post again to see if anyone who hasen't looked at my post may have an answer. Been thinkin, if my front shocks are gone as well would that lower the clearance of the chain and cause it to slap the tranny housing and sub frame? It does it on hard acceleration and cornering??

Thanks for the help. Greatly appreciated!!

I sure hope you aren't riding with no front shocks? Can you give usmore detail? That would help out a-lot!

Have you tried to tighten the chain. May even need to replace chain with a new one.

Thanks for your replies. Yup, shocks are shot and I'll bet that's part of it. As far as the chain is concerned, it's fairly tight and seems to be in good shape.

I got a good deal on this from my landlord. He had it for his grand kids to ride when they come and visit. Some painting and $500.00. He bought it a couple of years ago and has done nothing to it mechanicly. I have changed the fluids, filters, plug, and front tires. Oh, and the rear shock. It runs great other than the chain issue. Good compression as well.

I'll replace the front shocks to see if that helps. If not I'm stumped!!

Thanks so much for your replies!!

You say the chain is "fairly tight"...is it within specs? Get it tightened within specs and put a chain tensioner on it.

Jack up the machine and see how much slack is in the rear swingarm bushings, should not move side toside very much.
