Default vent

there should be a slit in the vent hose about 2 or 3 inches from the oil tank that should open up if there is a blockage in the vent line.but for some reason yours didnt open and built up way to much pressure.

If you find a older alloy tank it should work, the 500 motor has never really changed at all.
The alloy tanks are not just stronger but also have cooling fins,to make the oil tank act as a oil cooler.

On my first oil change I discovered the plastic tank and was not enthused. I looked at the alloy tanks and like the added strength and cooling effect. It would be nice to know if someone has done this and if the older model would bolt right up. If it does, how hard is it to change the oil. It seems on the x2 you would lose access to the dipstick.

Howdy all.......OK, lets say that that the plastic oil tank is replaced by the stronger aluminum tank......what will be the next "weakest link" to fail......the pressure that was bursting the plastic tank still needs to be dealt with.....it's gotta go somewhere.....NoJoke

True, the pressure that made the tank explode could for sure do damage to something else
