Engine won't idle and sometimes idles to high
I have a 2007 polaris sportsman 500 EFI deluxe that won't idle and sometimes idles to high and will not idle down. The check engine light is not coming on and it does not seem to go onto high idle when the engine is cold. Anyone have any ideas?

does the throttle feel like it has too much slop in it?? maybe the cable has ice in it ,not letting it return to idle
|
possibly leaking crank seal. allowing it to suck air and thus run lean. if its not there then it sounds like you have an air leak somewhere
|
make sure throttle cable isn't getting bound up or is too tight. should have about 1/8" play as you squeeze the throttle.

sounds like an air leak

hey mpolaris111,
Please check where your intake bolts onto the engine. I have the same machine as you, and had the same symptoms. Turns out that one of the intake bolts had worked its way out completely, and the other one was on its way. The whole intake and throtle body assembly was just flopping around down there. miracle it ran at all. The intake gasket had a tear in it, so I replaced that and the missing bolt and tightened everything up and all is back to normal. |
How would I know where the air leak was if it was that?

Everything checked out ok

Everything was tight. Any other ideas?

crank seals. and i had a polaris i serviced once that when the tank ran low on gas it would run wide open. you may wanna try adding fuel to tank
