Fuel again to use or not touse ethanol based
#11
At a party last night and got talking about the ethanol based fuels wrecking engines ie. rusting valves, shlacking and gunk build up. As well as the alcohol eating fuel lines and rubber based gaskets and o-rings. One guy said that kwik trip and shell are now carrying gas that contains no ethanol for boat motors chainsaws, lawnmowers and atvs. Want to know everyone elses views and thoughts on this "new" fuel.
Ethanol increases octane so to get mpg back to normal you would need to increase timing.
How do E-85 vehicles work?

It's like that here too. I run 93 in the 850, being it has an 11.1 compression ratio. The Prairie 300 gets regular 87 octane E10. So does the lawntractor, and the two strokes. They do get synthetic oil, and I richen the 50:1's up to 40:1 too. I do the two stroke mixes 40:1 because I have like 4 40:1's, and only two 50:1's. Never had an issue yet, but I've seen a few boat gastanks that were rotton, and was told ethanol was the culprit.

Kalifornia has had ethanol in it's gas for years. Before that, we had MTBE. Before that we had ethanol for many, many, many years. We could not get anything else so I have been runing it for a long, long time.
I use some of my two strokes only two weeks out of the year. Never drained the gas and have not used Stabil in years. The two strokes I use go to WOT and stay there all day or until the tank runs dry. NEVER a problem. NEVER. Well, some fuel lines get hard pretty quickly.
O2 gas has it's advantages and disadvantages.
The good is more power. Kind of like a poor mans nitro. It carries it's own O2 with the fuel.
The bad is less mileage. Alky does not have the BTU's that straight gasoline has. That means that if your right on the edge of lean-ness with straight gasoline your going to go lean with E10.
I just don't see what the big deal is? I leave my gas in my tanks for over a year with no additives and no problems.

Fitter....I'd have to verify, but I think I remember seeing Polaris specify 87 octane for the XP. I just run 87 with 10% Ethanol and it runs great. Maybe I'm wrong though.

Try a bit of MTBE in your water supply....That is some nasty stuff. Too bad they waited so long to get rid of it. A leaking underground gas tank caused massive well damage in a town I lived in about 10 years ago. Aside from having kids with an eyeball on their back, some of the property was all but worthless once the trouble was fully mapped out in the water table. Thankfully, we lived up on the hill above the tank.
