Cool 88 trail boss 250

hey everyone. i got an old 88 trail boss 250 that im fixing up. the piston blew so im going over the bike on the down time to make it better. i like the old school look so i want to keep the old girl around as long as i can. ive got a 1.5mm wiseco top end kit comeing and getting the cylender bored and the head milled. im also getting a trail boss RES 38mm carb with a high flow air filter. my only problem is finding an exhaust system. i cant find a pipe for my year. only for 1999 and nwer trailblazer 250s. FMF offers a pipe at a good price for the 99 up trailblazer 250. would it be hard to modify this pipe to fit my bike? if not does anyone have any ideas? my bike is rated by polaris at 22hp the RES at 27hp and the cyclone at 30hp. i know the cyclone had diff porting and a 34mm carb. the RES uses a 38mm carb but stock trail boss porting. is the carb worth 5 hp or did they do ther mods? with my 1.5 mm overbore milled head 38mm carb and a better pipe could my bike make 30hp? id like to match or beat the cyclone. sorry for the long long.......long post. thanks for the help.
