You said the plastic "T" was melted and had a hole. Maybe it got hot enough to melt and ignite the plastic. I had an electrical fire on on mine from a wire that was rubbing and shorted. I was fortuante enough the whole machine did not burn because I was on the trail, but it did a lot of damage to the wiring.
