Default Chainsaw carrier

How do folks carry their chainsaw and still ride in a "spirited manner", shall we say? Sounds like an bad combination, I know, but I want to ride relatively quickly, yet still be prepared. What are the options, aside from literally lashing one to the front or rear racks? Carrying a chainsaw on a long trip seems like a basic necessity, along with extra gas, water, emergency supplies. If one had his druthers someone in the riding party should be carrying a small saw. I'm on a rack kick lately.

I think Montana Jacks has a system set up to carry saws.

Northern Tool has an industrial case that looks like it could be simply modified for this purpose. Looks like a tool box with a bar cover for $30. Don't Know how stout it is though.

One of my dad's friends had a rear box that he made, that he put custom dividers in it, and made a chainsaw shaped compartment, and you would rig up some sort of net or strap to keep it down

I guess since your posting this then Polaris DOES NOT make a lock and ride Chainsaw accessory? I've seen the aftermarket (Mad Gear and Kolpin) ones on Sportsmanguide.com and Bassproshops.com.

I seen one on Mongrol's (one of many) pics, wonder which one he has?

Polaris Options:
2005-2007 Sportsman = Box

Ranger = Vertical Mount

I would take a piece of 3/4" plywood and place the saw, chain oil, gas/oil mix can, and other accessories on it. Mark the plywood and make dividers out of 3/4" pine between the different items. Box in the exterior in a rectangular shape. My father did this with a couple small saws. I would make sure your box will fit on your rack before going beyond the marking stage. Attach with either lock-n-ride hardware or some kind of bolt.

M, I was thinking more like something pictured in mdv's post for the Ranger....something that hangs down on the rear, so it won't take up precious horizonal rack space.....say if you're going camping for a couple of days......you'd want all the rack space you can get. I didn't make that clear earlier, cuz I wasn't sure until I saw that pic. Thanks...
