Cool Best snow setup??

Its winter here and like doing some winter riding. Just wonder if there is anything people have done for the best snow setup meaning:

aggressive tires? or stock ones

wide or narrow.

Im just trying to think of the best setup.

thx

I have mudlights and i can do any snow up to 18" DEEP with no issues......however i hate the sidewalls on them there is a reason why they call'em pluglites!

Usually it's wide tires with paddle type tread in order to float. If you want to dig to the dirt, then a XTR. MST, mudlite, type tire works well. To float, you want bighorns, mudbugs, zillas, etc... The good part about the tires with paddles or bar type tread is that they have similar traction forward or reverse.

For the ultimate in snow, the tracks cannot be beat, but if it's not enough snow, I can see how they would be boring.

Tracks are your best setup for winter riding. Not sure how much snow you get, but anything of any volume is going to be a problem.

Tires with metal studs are available. Can remember if it was ITP or Maxxis.

Haven't had a chance to run my zillas in the snow since getting tracks before Winter. They are worth every cent IMO! My 05 800 had 29.5 laws and that went through the snow like nobody's business. Plowed a bit late last Winter with the stock PXT's and they did surprisingly well.

I know of a guy who plows commercially and he swears by Holeshot Radial ATRs for his plow ATVs.

I'm running 27" ITP 589's on my 850. I put 162 carbide ice racing screws in each rear tire and 80 screws in each front tire - 484 in total (come in a box of 500). Works very well in fairly deep snow and works absolutely awesome on icy trails - you can rail through corners like it's dry dirt.

HV,

I was curious once you install the cleat screws for snow/ice can you remove them or is it a permanent install?

Thx,

For the most part, I don't think that tractions is as big of a problem in deep snow as flotation (staying on top) so that you don't get hung up on the frame.

This is why I am following many threads about tires for winter use and so far from what I've seen it seems to be between the Zillas or the Bighorns for flotation.
