Default "02 700 sputtering Etc Ignition failure?

My '02 700 has been acting up for a week or so and I checked and cleaned carb, new plugs, unplugged speedo, then revlimiter, drained tank and checked fuel pump. When I ran it today it warmed up then started sputtering again. When I wiggled wires I found the ones to the magneto through the cover and the machine flat out died. Unplugged the wiresfrom under hood and tested them, all OK. Am I experiencing the dreaded Ignition Failure? What else could it be? Thank you,
Chris

Very possible the igniton is going out,BUT to be sure get the resistance specs to check the system out,PLUS you can pull the stator cover and check for bare or shorted wires or possibly pulser wire solder connection loose(have found a couple like this) OPT

I didn't see any bare wires, but will pull the flywheel tomorrow and see what I find. Where would I look specifically and where do I check the resistance? Thanks a ton for your help,
Chris

Resistance check is in the schematic pages of the manual. Tells the range of pulser coil and the stator charge coil, along with coil pack. NOTE: if the ignition coil pack (DUCATI) shows bad,I would go ahead and replace the whole system as the stator usually follows and then you have to change the whole system anyway! No use spending 200 bucks on a coil pack that is being discontinued!.. OPT

Got it! It was the wires coming out of the magneto case. They were pulled apart internally within the insulation. Glad to have her back. Many thanks OPT.
