Default hello

im going to guess the carb. i had the same problem with mine. but i didnt know any of that other stuff so someone told me it had to be bored out. so i got it bored out and got a piston and gaskets and all that other stuff. and relized i couldnt put it back together.lol. so i sold it to a friend of mine that was able to put it together. a week later he called me and told me it was all togther and that was not the problem. he said that the carb was just gumed up, he just cleaned the jets and it started up. i wasnt to happy with that i paid 1,400 for it and sold it to him for 350. i dont know if that helps any but i thought i would tell you.

you got spark, fuel, good compression....clean the carb real good, its not difficult to do just take your time and get it clean. make sure you service the filter also.

I had this old yamaha last summer and it ran for crap so i ripped the carb off and took it apart..cant believe the thing would run at all i never seen such a dirty carb,it took 2 days of soaking to get it clean.after i put it together you would of thought the 1986 moto4 was brand new.

you said it won't even start now? you said it is getting gas and fire(which means it should fire) but it won't start. 108 psi is good enough to run but isn't that strong. clean the barb out completely and make sure to set the setting correctly(count the number turns in until they bottom out(do not tighten) and then remove for cleaning and reinstall the same place.imo

Thanks for the replies everyone. My next question is I rebuilt a 4 barrel carb on a car but never really done any carb work on a bike or quad had a sight that was supposed to show you the lay out of the carb but cannot locate the website now.Any way what do I need to do exactley and what cleaning product should I use. When I would work on a car. I would use a spray called hogwash seemed to work pretty well. Also kind of confused here as far as I know 108 psi for compression is good not bad at all any other motor Ive done or book I read says thats a good number top end was done last spring just wondering why 108 is bad thanks

If you'done a quadrajet or thermoquad, then you can do one of these. instead of power valves, it's just jets.
Just do like stendori wrote with the fuel mixture screw and it will run like a top, take ALL jets out and clean ,make sure you can see daylight thru them ,you may need a needle and some compressed air though
Make sure you can see daylght thru the air filter
check intake boot for cracks and when you put the carb back on make sure it is in the boot as far as it wiil go and clamp is tight ,so you don't have a vacuum leak there. anythung else let us know . GOOD LUCK
