Default Airbox seal

I was doing a maintenance day on my 500 HO including the front spring spacer mod from stendori which by the way well worth it IMO. Took the sag out of the front end and gave me back my factory ground clearence and then some.

My question is regarding the seal on the airbox lid. the groove in it isn't uniform and it seems like it could use some additional help to ensure a water tight seal.

Can I run a bead of silicone or something in the grove and if so what type do you all recommend will I be able to remove the lid afterwards without running a new bead again.

Yeah it is my 09. It's not that the seal is damaged or anything it just that looking at it, it doesn't give me a confident feeling. At the the corners it seems like the seal might have twisted abit. I will up load some pics tomorrow to show you what I mean.
I am most likely over analizing it but I am afraid of water and the trails around my place have some big holes that you have no choice but to go through or go home.

you could use silcone, but a pain in the butt to remove it down the road. i agree you can get a differnt seal if need be if yours is beyond straighting out.i had to replace min eon the 08' becuase it wasn't put in right at the factory and it would leak. put new one in correct and never had any issues up to the top of fenders. imo

I have had no troubles with mine, but I put a good coating of die electric grease on mine, to make a good seal that is "reuseable"

Mine seems to of been put in incorrectly from the factory as well. I noticed it the first time I cleaned my pre filter but never thought anything of it. Late last fall I had a couple close calls when the airbox was at least partially submerged. I never leaked a drop but I don't trust it.

Would it be possible to lay a bead of silicone in the lid groove and let it set before placing the lid back on the box. Would it be plyable enough to make a nice seal?

I don't think a dried bead of silicone would provide a very good seal either. I put a bead of die-electric grease and it has been over the air box a few times, and it hasn't leaked an ounce IMO that's the way to go

if you used pure silcone that stays pliable it most likely would work. imo

I agree 100% silicone will work, clean the surface with alcohol first and just put a fine bead.
