Hey folks, I have recently purchased a 2002 Sportsman 500. I am new to the ATV world, but have determined through research on this forum, that I have a bad CV joint somewhere. Also, the previous owner made it clear that he had just replacd a CV boot. SInce I don't know the exact history of this machine, I thought I'd just go ahead and replace all the rear joints, along with the axles. I am looking at these parts: POLARIS 500 SPORTSMAN (99-02) REAR ATV AXLE W/CV JOINT : eBay Motors (item 160408842701 end time Mar-29-10 18:55:27 PDT)
Can I get feedback from you guys who know what you're doing?
Thanks, Colby.
P.S. Where the hell is the oil dipstick on this thing??

first welcome to the forum. 2nd i would be jumping all over that price for that cv joint as thats a steal at that price. i almost hit the buy now just to resell it lol. anyways, the oil dip stick is in oil reservoir(not a oil cooler) on the left side under the fornt fender. it is also where you would fill it from an oil change. it takes 0-40 synthic oil. this is a dry sump bike, meaning except for a little, all the oil is stored in this tank. you should have a owners manual to have for good refernces for service work. if you have a loud clicking noise, then chances are you do have a bad cv joint. if he just replaced a boot, start looking at that one first for a bad cv. you should be able to pin point the bad one if you listen real close.
