Default New to Quads

Hey everyone, New here I am Brad. I am 21 and just bought my first atv. I got a Sportsman 700 EFI 2005. I just picked it up used and am going to do a full maintance on it so I know what I am working with. After reading the Manual I have a few questions and have searched the forums for hours with little luck.

Oil. Would Mobil 1 0W-40 work or do I need Amsoil or Polaris.

How much front and Rear Gear case fluid do I need and what kind of fluid?

Also the coolant needs to be aluminum safe. After going to Autozone, I was lead to believe now all antifreezes are alum safe?? Is this true?

What type of Air Filter, and Oil filter should I use? Also should I change the plug?

Its got 2100 miles on it and 550 hours.

Anything else I should do> Thanks in advance Brad

welcome to the forum. check out the sticky thread above for good info on what fluids to use for your service. the owners manual pretty covers what you need. you can use the mobil 1 0-40 oil or other full synth. oil of same numbers. the most important fluid to KEEP THE SAME is the front end. use only proper polaris front end oil for correct operation and no issues. w/ the fluid change and grease job check the cv boots for any rips or loose clamps to prevent damaged cv joints in the future. ride and enjoy.

I buy all my fluids from Polaris. Can't remember the exaxt amount on the diffs but they are not less than a qt and you fill untill it starts coming out the hole. 2 qts oil on an oil change and I use the popo stuff. I prefer K&N filters so that's all I run. Wouldn't hurt to change the plugs and keep the old one's as spares. Same goes for the drive belt. Last, but not least, get a service manual off ebay or do a pdf search and you may find it free out in cyberland. They make fixing/troubleshooting your ride much easier! Welcome to the forum. Hope you have many happy rides on your new machine.

I got all mine from Polaris as well and asked them about the maint, lucky I did the guy told me about the lube in the front hubs, shure enough when I checked it it was about dry,if I would have not asked I would have no known..

When ever I buy used anything I go on the idea that it all needs done oil, lubed ect ect that way you know it's done if you do it right off the bat.

That was exactly my thinking. So I did the front and rear fluids last night, engine oil and filter. I am still going to need to grease all the spots, brake fluid, coolant, and air filter, I am torn on what air filter to get? But is there anything else I am forgetting?

Wix makes a filter that is cheaper and of better quality. Part # 1358 for 500 HO and I think 1356 for 700/800.
Mobil1 is perfect for the machines. I use it and NAPA/Wix filters.
