New Swamp-lites for my Scrammy - DIY tire changing??
#1
I just ordered 4 Swamp-Lites for my scrambler 500. (and a pair for wife's trail-boss)
Any good techniques on dismount and mounting?
My plan was using a 2x6 and my truck to break the bead.
I was planning on trying a strap and a mix of dish soap and water to seat the bead.
If that fails..... pyrotechnics! The good old ether trick.
If anyone has any good methods, please share.
Thanks in advance.

If I don't have access to the tire changer, I'll use the board method, and normally I just kick the tire, and bounce it around, until it begins to seat, I have had good luck with this method. Also, you will want to for sure take the time to clean the area where the bead seats on the rim, also you may want to get a can of bead sealer and seal them while your at it to prevent troubles later

hey when airing up tire take out valve stem insert and with no chuck on air line just put air hose on valve stem like the valve stem is a air tool this dumps air in a lot faster much eaiser to set bead then just insert back in they sell tool to take them out for about $1 and always good to have on hand

I went with one of these, PORTABLE TIRE CHANGER CAR TRUCK ATV TRAILER QUAD L@@K!! : eBay Motors (item 320508698465 end time Apr-03-10 17:01:46 PDT) , and it works great for breaking beads. Just need to use some soapy water and they come off pretty easy. Ditto on removing the core from the valve stem when seating and using bead sealer. Try without a strap first and you might get lucky otherwise the strap method helps if they are being a pain to seat. Got to be like gumby sometimes and hug it in the right spot.
If you're in a hurry to mount them and don't want to wait try a local dealer or tire place. The folks at my local honda dealer broke beads for me once(before I got my changer) and only charged $5 a wheel.
