I know this makes since in almost all cases.....but not every case.
My mechanic really is almost to good to be true. He charges very reasonable ($35 per hour)......LOVES working on old bikes and quads.......buys salvaged and non-runners and breaks them down into tubs so he has TONS of hard to find parts (just the other day I needed a brake caliper for a 1975 CB550 Honda....took him about 2 minutes and he came back with one in his hand). He really knows his stuff - hes a top notch mechanic and all around great guy. I probably do $500 a month in business with him and Ive ALWAYS left 100% happy and satisfied.
.........but him and his dad are doing this out of a small building. There is crap literally stacked to the ceiling everywhere......its a 100% horrible mess. There are spots you cant even SEE the floor.
Using your theory I would have walked out of the best shop Ive ever known.

Went to the Polaris dealer I go to once and they had a preddy in there that had been swamped. Mechanic said they could trace a trail of dirt down into the carb. Of course, the motor had locked up. Polaris covered it. Nephew took his preddy to another dealer with a broken frame. That dealer said Polaris wouldn't cover it. My dealer fixed the brake on the wife's blazer a week after the warranty expired, and still had it covered under warranty.
Polaris itself can only go by what the dealer says the problem is.

I've had nothing but quality interactions with my dealer and the service required on the XPs. Bike has been great. Hope it stays that way after the warranty runs out. We'll see how she holds up. Might just unload it in a couple years for something new if the utility HP wars keep escalating.

ive only had problem with the dealers in my area, they treat me like im imposing on them everytime i bother to waste my time going in to their shops.
If i had another way to buy a new polaris I would have never given the local dealer my sale.

Some dealers are bad, in our town the Kawaski dealer is the worst, I just avoind them. even a oil, plug change will take 2 days and you have to haul the ATV there and back and pay 3x what the job is worth.
Thats the point of this site,to never see a dealer again unless buying or warranty work.

Right....or forced technical work that requires expensive "special tools" and training. This would be limited to....transmission work, and electrical / computer systems. Who knows what else. I guess it's a matter of time too. I don't have days on end to rebuild a broken crankshaft, but might reconsider after I get the estimate from the dealer.
