I am new to atvs bought a 04 700efi sportsman . The machine seems to loose power at times checked fault code no 51 would like to know what this means and how do I clear fault code.

 

If I'm not mistaken, I believe fault code 51 has to do with one of your injectors. Which would make sence if it's running rough at times.
51-injector #1 open load
51-injector #1 short circuit to ground
51-injector #1 short circuit to battery

 

I checked wiring to injectors and injectors with meter they test ok my son tells me that it does this went hot only. I will pick up new plugs and fuel filter asap . When I took it apart I found 3/4 of air intake tube covered with the black foam that holds the tube in place . Is there a way to clear the fault without handset at dealer

 

as far as i have read, unhooking the battery does not clear coded and it mentions the dealer clearing codes.

 

Unhooking the battery will clear the codes as long as the problem has been fixed.

 

Does it tick when it runs rough? Have seen some with a bad lifter, it will tick and start missing on one cylinder.
