Default 700 EFI Fuel pressure issues

Newbie here begging for advise. My 2004.5 700 EFI has high fuel pressure. I removed the fuel pump assy because the float was fubar. I zip tied the rheostat arm in place so the tank reads full and the low fuel warning no longer flashes. It ran fine for half hour or so then started barely running. I took it to the shop and relayed this story to them. $150 later my fuel pressure is around 100psi when it should be 39. They wanted to sell me a new tank. I'm going to remove the pump assy and see what I screwed up. Any tips on fixing this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ken in Oregon
