Xplorer 400 rocks!

Im so happy I added that pipe, clutchkit and KN air filter. It has drastically improved the speed! The dag'on thing has some guts now! I'm debating on wether to get the Delta V Force Reed kit. I dont want to lose any bottom end. I hear it will give better throttle response, save gas and might add a little to the top end which is great, but I dont want to lose any bottom end either. Does anyone know if it will take away from bottom end?
Thanks

MN,
I added a Aaen trail pipe, I beleive the clutch kit is a stage 1 and a KN airfilter. That's it!
I have noticed the front wheels will come of the ground on pavement but I havent really tried to wheelie it yet. Top speed so far is around 70..atleast well over the 60mph mark which is the highest it reads of course. It goes from 0-60 pretty quick...I havent tried a whole mile yet because I dont want to burn the piston out. I went riding with a buddy of mine that has an Xplorer like mine but its older. He made some adjustments to his throttle that I couldnt make on my 2000 model which made his run about 65. Until last week mine would read about 59-60 on the speedometer and he would pass me. After I upgraded we wound them up down a road and I passed him easily. He said he was going 65 and that I must have been going 70. I let off as soon as I passed him. Im sure it will go a little faster but have yet to try it. It sputters alot right now because I have the jet set high due to the cold weather. Next month I plan to rejet it down and add the Delta V Force reed kit. Im very impressed with how much a difference there is speed, with a few less expensive mods it really woke the engine up. Do you know of anymore mods that would help?

A reed spacer is about $20.00 to $25.00 and will help with mid range without losing any low end.
I installed the Delta II's on mine after the pipe & clutch kit, and they sharpened up the throttle reponse. Popular opinion is to set the reeds in the high tension position.

Like CaptNemo said, reeds and a spacer are what you want next it will really sharpen the throttle response. Too bad Wisconson made all aftermarket pipes ILLEGAL! I ride WIS alot so, I needed a pipe that I could swap with the stock one easly. So Dynoport was my only real option, they make real good power in the stock rpm range and give you a few more on the mph top. The best topspeed I've seen on my GPS is 73.4 but when I looked at my plug my jetting was on the edge! The other thing you might want to look at is a Wiesco piston, the stock ones don't like the high rpm's.

The HPD pipe will accept the stock silencer / spark arrestor, and with some header wrap / tape to cover it up and dampen some of the sound energy, it would take a trained eye to spot the difference.
Also, ( and I know I've said this before ) start adding some oil to the fuel to keep everything lubed up. When you start making modifications, the fuel / oil ratio go out the window, and pre-mixing in the 50:1 range certainly won't hurt.
I found out the hard way about stock pistons, I scored the stocker with about 20 hours on it...
Replaced it with a Wiseco and learned an important lesson. I don't want anyone to have to learn that lesson like I did, the HARD WAY...

CaptNemo, I wish that HPD pipe would fit! It appears the shifter bracket is in a slightly different location causing shift linkage clearence problem. Yes, brackets could be modified but I'm happy with what I've got. Besides, a $252 pay on the spot ticket is'nt even worth chancing. I took a different approuch on the premix, instead I just bumped up the injector a bit. I do lots of filling up at gas stations on the trail and don't care to carry oil with.

CAPT NEMO,no disrespect sir,but I had RcR send me a HDP pipe and Scrambler silencer for my 00 Xplorer, the shifter is in a diffrant location on the 00 Xplorer, the 99 HDP pipe does NOT fit a 00 model Xplorer.I sent it back to RcR.And I have NO clue as to how you would EVER adapt that HUGE stock silencer to the HDP pipe if you could EVER get the pipe to install. That stock silencer is HUGE!And who wants to use header wrap after spending huge amounts of $$ for a pipe? Not me!
MNXPLORER,
when I receive and install my Dynoport mods, how do I go about richening up the oil injection unit?I do not want to have to add oil to my fuel,
Bill
