Default Another Tire Question on '09 XP850

Hey Guys,

I've read through a bunch of threads, but I've also found some conflicting responses in regards to which tires fit on the stock rims on the 09 850. I'm looking at both the ITP Mudlite XTR 27's, and the Maxxis Big Horn 26 inch tires, and was wondering if they will fit on my rims, and if they will go on my bike with no rubbing on the sway bar. I'm looking at the 9 and 11 inch widths for both.

I assume if I go with the silver crusher rims from Maxxis, or the SS212 rims from ITP, it will work regardless? If I do get those rims, could I put 30 inch tires on them, and add a lift to my bike?

Thanks for the help

EDIT - I also do know about the swaybar trick, but I'd kind of like to avoid it if I can

With those tires you will need to do the sway bar mod, spacers, or aftermarket wheels. With aftermarket wheels the machine will be roughly 53" wide. With spacers about 51" wide and about 48 1/2" wide doing the mod.

IMO, the sway bar mod is the best idea just because it keeps the atv more narrow. Nothing more frustrating than hitting trees, ruts, rocks, etc. because you have such a wide track.

Thanks Roofer.

For anyone, I think I'm leaning more towards the ITP mud lites if I'm going to have seperate rims, and was just wondering what ITP rim would be best for the 850. Would the SS212 fit without any mods?

After doing more research, I think I've decided to go with the GBC Spartacus or Grim Reaper tires, and I'll go with the ITP SS212 rims. My question is, do I need 4 rims, or should I just buy the back ones to make sure I don't have issues clearing the sway bar? How would the bike perform with the tires i mentioned on stock rims, and the same tires on the ITP SS212 rims for the back? If it will simply be too wide in the back, I have no issues ordering all 4 rims.

I replaced my stock Terrathons with grim reapers of the same width, 12 & 9" on stk rims. At first it looked like they would hit the sway bar but when I lowered it off the jack and moved it back & forth a couple of times, I had 1" clearance on each side.

Thats awsome, I was just looking at putting the 11s on the back. You put 12s on the back, on stock rims, with no sway bar mod? If so, thats exactly what I was looking for.

Sorry, typing error. Put 11's on rear.

Just thought I'd give a little update. I got the SS212 rims with the GBC Spartacus tires, and couldn't be happier with the performance of them. They ride great, and definately throw mud. My only issue now is my bike is 54 inches wide with the offset rims, so I may need some fender flares, but rocks don't fly up at me with the tires, so its not that big of a deal. The bike definately looks pretty badass compared to with stock tires. Thanks for the help.

Looking at some really cheap Goodyears Rawhide MT radials in 9" and 11" for the XP. I think I'm going to buy them and just deal with the sway-bar mod if necessary. I'll let this post know if they fit for future reference.
