Set the brake when towing?
#1
Do you set the brake when you tow your Polaris or just leave it in park? I read somewhere (maybe the manual?) that the brake cable will get stretched out after 10 minutes or so and the brake would be useless at that point... but I don't know if that was implying that I shouldn't set the brake when towing, or if it was just talking about general riding conditions.

That wasn't an answer I was expecting... Kind of invalidates the whole poll. I've got two 2010 550's - an X2 and an XP... so I assume based on your statement that I should have hydrolics. I'll double check, but I thought it was my manual telling me not to do that though.

You're absolutely correct - both are hydraulic, and there's no mention of leaving them engaged for extended periods. I must have picked that up from the boards, and I have no doubt that it was in reference to a model that had a brake cable.

Polaris has been hydraulic front and rear for quite a few years now. I can't even remember how far back you have to go to see cable brakes if ever on the sportsman's. I always set my brakes along with the park when towing.

Luckily I don't have to worry about towing, I access all the trails I could ever want from my back yard. The owner's manual for my x2 says to lock the brake, like mentioned above I wouldn't leave it set any longer than it need to be, you could actually blow the seals in the cylinders.
