NH seems okay with going through water as long as it's part of the existing trail. At Hopkinton Everett for instance they have many bridges over deep water, standing water, and streams. There is one trail where a marsh empties into a coffee colored stream and there is no bridge and it looks like there never was. Sullivan County trails have some of the deepest waterholes I've been through. A couple trails, Cat Hole Road and Cornish Turnpike have some headlight deep spots. There's never been any talk of closing the trails for that reason.

well that lake has no public acess and not fished very much. If it was a heavly travled lake there is no way I would have done that little stunt. As for "clouds of silt and debris" Silt will settle back down in a matter of mineutes and "Debris" it's a four wheeler and not a tornado!!! It dosen't add any more debris I ain't draggin a trailer full of stick and garbage behiend me. It don't turn up anymore than a boat motor!

Better get a copy of the mn atv laws and read it.

All it says is you may not operate below high water levels on unfrozen public water. Well this particular lake is a private lake so I would still be ok as far as the DNR goes.

I thought union boys knew all the rules..........

There isn't a single body of water that is 100% privately owned. The watershed people have full control of the water, especially here in liberal MN.

this comment pisses me off so much. Not at you just the fact that people can go across this guys land to have access to this lake. If the lake has public access that is maintained by a governing authority then yes people can go there, but crossing private land is b.s.

Your telling me!!! every year at hunting season we have half a dozen idiots from the twin cities who either can't read "NO TRESPASSING" or just don't care cuz they think they can get away with it. See the thing is, we pay over $6,000 a year in taxes but to some people that means nothing and they still feel it's ok to hunt, hike, and ride wheeler on it. Ridding wheeler on our land is not a huge deal but it never fails that we always find some new trails that really mess with our food plots!

This has nothing to do with where the lake is or if you own all of the property all of the way around it or if you have no tresspassing signs posted. I don't care if you use your polaris as a boat, that is your choice. What I would like to know is what you would tell the conservation officer as to why you are riding your wheeler in an unfrozen lake below the hi water line. Oh and by the way, the conservation officer can go on any land in the state to enforce the the laws even if the land is posted or not.
The reason I don't want to see the video posted here is mn is full of tree hugging wackos that would love to use it against all of us that obey the laws and enjoy the sport.

Public waters: I don't think people can cross private property to get to "public" waters in MN. That's not the case in any state in the east or west that I've lived in anyway. Water in most states is public for good reason. You can't stop somebody from entering the pond/lake via the stream the either feeds or relieves the body, but they can't just cross you land to get to some lake. The land is private, but the only way they could legally get to the lake is to wade up the center of the stream.

The rules are setup for all waters. As I said earlier, laws are not site specific. You can't come up with 50 rules for every situation out there. There's normally a few laws and they apply to all water bodies.

Yeah, a 4 wheeler does churn up silt and mud. Do whatever you want on you father's land, but don't try and compare cleaning off your 4wheeler in a pond to an outboard.
