I just purchased a used 500 x2 deluxe. I have been searching for a 2 up for a long time. This model happened to be the right deal. Got it pretty cheap, and it only has 31 miles. It seems after research that it is a reliable do it all type of machine.

What mods do you guys recommend that I make to it? Should I add bumpers, pros and cons? Will the front bumper work with the snow plow attachment that is on it?

I need to replace the passenger seat bottom as the PO's dog chewed it up a little. Any ideas on repair/ replacing?

Finally, I purchased this because I have three small kids and it is perfect to hit some trails with them. I am looking for other family types here in SoCal to ride and learn some trails with.

welcome to the forum. the 500 is a very good bike. bumpers are a nice feature but does add extra weight to the front end and the sportsmans are known for front end sag(do a search for info). use low range when working it or going slow alot to help the belt life. good maintaince for a lobg life. if you got the owners manual w/ it read it for good info for fluid replacement. enjoy the new ride.

 

I have read the springs in the 07 are stiffer than the 08. I like this as I am a large guy. Is there something to correct the sag/ stiffer shock's, springs? May sound lame, but I was thinking to change out the winch cable for rope to compensate for bumper. I am a noob with quads so in no hurry to build out tomorrow, but nice to have a direction in mind.

 

I put on the HD springs from Polaris and it fixed the front sag. Babbitts online has parts. You can get the seat bottom right off the web. The only other things I did was to put a strip of 3/8"x1-1/2" aluminum on my wheel wells to strengthen them, and got ITP Mudlite XTRs for the deep stuff. Had to get longer studs and shim out the rim for tie rod end clearance. Purchased a gun scabbard that's X2 specific and a rack that holds a Rotopax gas can and has an extra rack space when you have a passenger.

 

I have the front bumper brushguard on my 800 X2's and really like it. It works fine with the Polaris Glacier 1 plow system.

 

I have the same bike you do, with a front bumper and a County Plow. Bumper keeps blade from coming up all the way, but it comes up enough. If your winch shoots craps (like mine just did), best replacement deal is a Supewinch 3500 for $250 from Bass Pro.

If you ever have the front end fluid changed, MAKE DOUBLY SURE that they put the right fluid in designed for the ADC. I had a dealer put in the wrong stuff (couldn't prove it) and had to have the front clutches replaced.

 

Polaris or highlifter hd springs will take care of the sagging. Bumpers are always a wise add-on because they do a good job of protecting those expensive plastic parts. Synthetic cable is awesome not only because it's lighter/stronger than steel but if you do happen to break it a quick knot will fix it. If you are going to be plowing I suggest getting a shorter piece for that. Normal diameter is like 3/16x50 feet and doesn't hold up well when plowing(same with steel). I ordered a 12 or 15 foot length of 1/4" synthetic rope for plowing and it has held up great. Enjoy the new ride!
