My 07s adc is toast because there is no switch so it engages all the time. Every time it kicks in I can hear/feel it sliping. If I leave it the way it is it will eventually trash my entire front gear case. Polaris says it's cheaper to replace the entire front case, I think I made a mistake buying this thing.

What do you mean there is no switch? My 07 doesnt have a 3 way switch like the newer ones ,but the awd switch[on and off] is the switch. It only works in awd ,and under 15 mph.Have you changed your oil in your differential? Mine would grind bad with the regular oil, once i switched to the new plus it never bothered again.

There are advantages in being able to shut it off IMO.There are reasons polaris changed to a switch. While having it in AWD you dont always need the ADC on. Wears parts, and lessons fuel economy. I can see going down a medium rocky grade and not wanting to fight the ADC, but wanting the AWD. Having a choice is better. I will be doing this upgrade when have a chance.

Update on my mod: I've now put on 73 miles since the mod (with no issues)and have to say I'm glad I did it. There is a very noticeable difference on the slow and winding trails or mudholes where your on and off the throttle constantly. I now see why polaris went with the selectable AWD or AWD/ADC option for 08-up. After reading about some of the problems associated with wear and tear on the ADC from being turned on any time the AWD is ON, I hope this mod will help to prevent premature failure since I'll only use the ADC when needed.

Great mod readymixer. I have the option to switch it off on my 08 and couldn't imagine having it on all the time as I only slide the switch over when needed....

Basically the ADC is a clutch pack and it only has a certain life span, which is greatly shortened on the 07s due to the fact that it engages any time you stop in AWD plus any time you let off the gas below 15 mph when it's in AWD. The oil has been changed twice in the last 50 miles, once by me and once by the dealer, it still grinds (slips) because the ADC clutch is nearly worn out. I've read (and the dealer said the same), once this happens it's just as well to replace the entire front drive unit... that's about $1,200 plus labour for the sake of 10 feet of wire and a $2 switch. The worst thing is that if I leave it the way it is now, it will eventually self destruct the entire front gear case. Real good engineering there, huh?

I bought what I needed to add the switch myself and once installed I will leave it off unless I get in a really hairy situation, which has been known to happen on occasion.

Man I miss my Kodiak....

I was able to get a hold of a pdf shop manual, pin 11 on the ECU is the ground wire for the ADC coil. Rather than cutting the wire down low where it's more exposed to water etc. it would be better to cut the wire close to the ECU and put the switch in.. you'd also need less wire and loom. In my case, I'll probably just pull the terminal out of the harness where it plugs into the ECU and tape it up to disable ADC all together.

Thats a good way to do it! I just went down lower for ease of access and used waterproof heat shrink butt connectors and then wrapped wire loom and electrical tape around the whole area of the splice. (cant tell any mod was ever done) If I was to ever have a connection issues it will be quick and easy to access through the wheel well.

I'm not gonna bother with the switch, my ADC clutch is too far gone and I don't have the money to rebuild/replace it. I did pick up some heatshrink butts tho, never knew there was such a thing. Handy to have around....

I pulled the ADC coil ground wire from the harness where it plugs into the ECU tonight (it's the one that lines up with pin 11 on the ECU, it's greyish brown/red), the only way it could have been easier is if someone else did it for me.

-Pull front box
-Pull body panel below hi beam headlight (the small one)
-Pull the ECU
-Unplug harness from ECU
-Locate pin 11 on the ECU (pins 1, 16, 17 and 32 are numbered, there is a dud where 3 -would be, count that as one).
-Open the gray clamshell thingy on the end of the Harness and release the two white tabs on the back of it.
-Remove the black plastic piece that covers the ends of the wires.
-Locate the wire that lines up with pin 11 on the ECU, it's greyish brown and red
-Bend back the white release and pull the wire, tape it up
-Re-install everything, I simply closed the gray clamshell thingy over the removed wire, there seemed to be lots of room.
-Test it out.

This applies to 2007 Sportsmans with ADC, they were not equipped with a switch to override the ADC from the factory and this results in warn out ADC clutch packs and possibly other issues

The shop manual states to be sure that the key is not on when disconnecting/reconnecting the ECU, I didn’t even have it in the ignition. I only have rear wheel engine braking now but no more grinding and hopefully no blown front drive unit (no, it's not a diff, it bugs me when people call it that).
