2010 Sportsman 800 without EBS
#1
I went to buy an 2010 Sportsman 800 and they do not have engine breaking anymore. You can add this as an option or accessory but it does not come standard. What B.S. this is. Why would anyone want a 900lb machine without any sort of engine breaking. Where I ride, I would go through a set of break pads every weekend. What are everyones thoughts and who has an 800 Sportsman without the EBS. What are your thoughts. I want a new machine.

Depends where you ride . Myself I don't have or want EBS , EPS or ADC I have now after today 8700 miles on my non EBS 2008 carb and I'm still on the original factory front pads . I have changed the one rear side once .

Spdecat,
I ride the hills of West Virgina. You climb up one side of the mountain and then back down the other side. I have a Polaris scrambler 400 now and it does not have engine braking. I am on the brakes hard to get it to slow down or even stop and it weighs half the weight of a sportsman. I am just concerned that the brakes would not last. The EBS is a 600 dollar option.

Its a cost saving measure for Polaris, my 2001 Sportsman 500 only came with EBS,now its a option. I agree with Spedcat ,our 97 SP500 has no EBS, we put HD EDC pads on it and its no big deal. It low range it acts like EBS if its a long steep hill.

My 09 has the option of 4x4 with or without on the switch. That to me was a brilliant idea since I don't use it much but it's a lifesaver when I do. As for why popo made it an option is pretty clear to me. Start adding up the extra costs on an sp and it would be easier to talk you into an xp! Hate to see the sp platform go but polaris should get their head out of the clouds and make the xp's indestructible so when they do stop making sp's people will not hesitate to pull the trigger on an xp. If they made a pushtube glacier plow mount for the xp I'd have one in my garage right now.

I'll have to check it out but I'm still not sold on the Glacier 2 set-up. I do some heavy plowing and need something that will take the abuse. Until I got the popo pushtube set-up I had a Glacier 1 and never had a problem with it. The 2's seem to have had a number of mount issues. That and heard people saying it's recommended not to plow over 5mph with them. That's pretty crazy! Won't be an issue for a while anyway. Picked up a overstock 07 Hunter's Edition 800 that I will pretty much keep stock so that will be wearing the tracks/plow in the Winter. Hoping my 09 sells so I can get a RZR and put the tracks on that for some playing in the snow. If It doesn't sell before this Winter I plan on keeping it and picking up a RZR next year. May end up trying the 850 once they work the bugs out of it.
