Default Looking for input on Plow size...

I have a 09 850 Xp and I will be purchasing a snow plow for it in the fall, I've already decided to go with Moose system, I am just not sure on the size of blade I want to get. Im thinking either a 60 or a 72 inch as my 850 should have plenty of power to push either of those...

Input is greatly appreciated!

Going to depend on how much you are plowing. If just doing a driveway and/or sidewalk the 72" would be great but if doing a lot of heavier stuff you might want to go with the 60". The bigger plow will catch a lot more snow and you will dig in faster with tires. I am looking to replace my 60" with the 72" because I plow a large area and run with tracks so digging in isn't an issue but the 60" with tires always did the job well.

Make sure the plow is wider than your outside width of the tires or the tires have to pull/push through unplowed snow and that creates more drag and less traction. This is a big problem if you have a "V" plow.

First off, the 72" plow is too heavy for any ATV, they were made for the UTVs. Be careful when making this decision when you think about belt wear and general wear on your machine. These 72" blades are over 125 lbs without the push tubes and mounts. Then add weight of the winch and winch mount. The largest we recommend to the ATV is the 60". Its more than enough plow for any ATV. Hope this all helps with your decision. Also think about a Warn setup, you just cant beat their warranty service for anything!!

I have a 60" Glacier II and it works great on my 2010 850 XP and angled completely to the left or right my tires are still within the plow corners. 72" seems like a lot for an ATV as mentioned above.

Thanks for the opinions guys, I think I'll go with the Moose setup in a 60inch!

Umm the Xp has adjustable front springs ment to be preloaded for the weight of the plow plus the 850 has more hp than any UTV on the market. So I dont see the argument Id go with a 72 if you had a lot of area but if its just a drivway sidewalk go 0 for the easy of size on the sidewalk.

I have ran the glacier 2 in a 72" and the moose in a 60". The 72" is awesome for small, dry snows. The issue with the 72" is when you start to windrow the snow and are a few rows into it the weight of the windrowed snow and extra width of the blade (extra leverage) work against you because there is not enough weight on the front of the quad to keep it from sliding sideways. I only used the 72" in a 12" deep wet heavy snow. The 60" was 75 miles away. I sold the G2 system to my uncle after one use. I have been doing small parking lots and residential driveways for the past 5 years with a 60" moose. NO REGRETS.

Don,t go to big, a Sportsman 500 will push snow as good as a Big Bore 850, since plowing both atvs are in low range power to the wheels in not the issue, its traction. Weight helps but both the 500 and 850 are over 700lb,there are 600lb 800 ATVs from other makers like Can AM that would push less.

Our 500 Spotsman push snow better then My friends more powerful 660 Grizzly because it weight 100lbs more. When I hit Its limited and all 4wheels are spinning in there ruts 1000 more hp would do me no good.

Our 20hp 2wd with chains on the tires garden lawn tractor pushes snow harder then the ATV. For a 72" blade I would want tracks or atleast chains on the tires on any ATV.
