1996 Tail Boss Gearcase
Long story short - Brother in law was riding it and when i came home, i had to tow him back home. Checked the clutches and belt and they are fine - With it in gear and turn the rear clutch by hand there is a grind sound coming from the tranny - Going to pull the gearcase this weekend.
What do i need to look for inside the case. I have never done this before. I have printed out a exploded parts view. Any help would be appreciated.
How do you tell if the chain is stretched?
Gears, i assume would be rounded if bad?
Whats the most common things that are replaced on a rebuild? Seals, Bearings?

Seals, check bearings for wear, almost always silent chain has to be replaced because of stretching, plus usually the two sided slider gear ,check shift forks for grooving, plus the mating gear to the slider needs to be checked out for worn engagement dogs. Plus ALWAYS replace circlips if removed! OPT
