Default Clutch Tuning, Primery Clutch Spring

Dear All,

My curreny situation, I need more power from my engine.

I have sportsman 500 98, stock 25 inch tire,

My Idle speed is about 900-1000RPM.

about 1200RPM the ATV it starting move.

At full gas, it step to about 3500RPM from 0MPh to 25MPh,
and to 3000RPM from 25MPh to 45MPh,
and step from 3000RPM to 6000-6500RPM from 45MPh to 60Mph.

It is not good for me, and i dont feel enougth power.

I have EBS Clutch (end of 1998 models) original Blue Spring, and original weights.

i want to make more Acceleration so i need more RPM, so instead of 3500RPM i was thinking on 4500RPM.

and the that ATV will start to move in 1700-2000 RPM (Instead of 1200RPM).
So i think need harder Spring: the 2 1/4 and 2 1/2 Load will be harder, to make more RPM and 1 1/4 Load the same to make same top speed.

Like Almond PATV12 : EPI: Clutch Springs

But i dont know if i need to touch it. i think to leave it like that is ok.

I don't want order a kit.

tell me what do you think ? i have the original Service manual in needed.

and step from 3000RPM to 6000-6500RPM from 45MPh to 60Mph
If you got a SP500 "Non" H.O going up to 60mph I would not touch a thing. We barely hit over 60 on our 660 Grizzly. I get barely by 55 mph and its a 500 H.O.

The thing about clutch kits it it draws from one end from the other. To clutch for top end you lose bottom and to clutch for bottom end you lose top end. Most re clutch for bottom end due to buying larger tires. Polaris stock clutching is a middle of the road compromise.

If I was going to do it I,d try the Red blue compo because that what "Aaens" uses.http://www.aaenperformance.com/Power500.asp

I like the stage 1 kit,a straight forward slip on muffler that gains 5 hp for only $250 and 30 minutes work.

Read this easy power gain from a guy on this forum. http://forums.atvconnection.com/pola...sp500-efi.html his is a efi but it works for a carb 500 without rejetting.

What I would do is get a Dalton blk/white primary spring,10MB weights and an Aaen blue secondary spring and try it at 1-1 setting then change it to 2-2 setting and see which works best.
I have tuned a ton of these things and this set up works great.
If the engagement is too high go with a Polaris white spring.

Not sure on the rate numbers but it is close to a Polaris Green. The secondary settings are the tension on the spring by what holes you have the spring is.

IMHO, the heel clicker clutch kits are the ONLY ones to run in a 500SP. I installed one in my 500 and as advertised, there are no compromises. My 500 accelerates faster and has a higher top speed while running 26" ITP 589's than it did with stock tires and clutching.
