I can lift the front of my ATV, can't budge a 500 HO.

Believe it or not that 150 pounds makes a huge difference when there is only one of you. A lighter weight ATV will always be easier to get unstuck that a heavy one.

I can see no advantage to a heavy ATV.

I will say this from experience, on a heavier atv (Polaris) they do make plowing thick heavy wet snow a little easy'r! For just about everything else a lighter quad is the way to go!

A heavier "Utility" ATV has more traction, and is stronger, you don't hear of bent frames on a Polaris. The first thing people do when plowing snow or ATV sled pulls is add sand bags or weight to get more traction. There,s no such thing as a light Garden tractor or will there ever be,you buy bolt on wheel weights as a option infact.

Lift the front end gets you unstuck? My 450 foreman was way lighter then my 500 put still there was not a hope in helI your getting that thing unstuck with out a TOW or winch.
If lifting the front end up a few inches gets you unstuck, then how was it stuck in the first place?
If they could invent a Utility ATV that weights 200lbs it would be one useless machine for what it suppose to do.

Default clutch care and use.....

How would you feel about dragging stuff with a Scrambler? I did pull a car out of the woods once and also some pretty good size logs but with no low range you had to be careful to keep your speed up and not smoke the belt.[/QUOTE]

Maybe this was your clutch issue as you talked about in your first post?

Lighter ATV's are way better if your out alone...and an extra 200 lbs is a make or break in alot on situations when dealing with a stuck atv..My buddy with his Big bear 400 gets stuck he can just get off and basically push it out while running the throttle all by himself with little effort..My friend with his sportsman on the other hand if he gets in a pinch well everyone needs to give the guy a hand those things are so heavy it nuts I cant even budge them alone..

I had a 3wd Big bear, they get stuck and unstuck because easy because it does not take much to get the stuck in the first place. If you can just push a stuck ATV out by running along side of it,I can tell you a ATV with AWD or diff lock would not even know its a trouble spot and drive right through.

Paces where my 450 foreman and 350 Big Bear would get hung up would be are a breeze to ride through now.

In the kind of mud we have up here in New England heavy is not necessarily a bad thing. Weight gets you through the muck down to the hard bottom. Same rule applies for snow. Weight on the tires also gives you more friction and therefore less spin. The argument about getting a quad out of the mud if it gets stuck is pretty moot if you have a good winch and a ****** block pulley to double the pull. Light is fun when you are cornering fast in a race setting. But, I was just doing 40+ last week on dirt roads/trails that had open stretches and I had no problems with cornering the X2.

On the Polaris Forum............"STUCK" ...Means STUCK..........With Quads that have very high ground clearance from the Factory........And with Polaris riders most (not all) and lift and larger tires so this will make deeper wheel tracks into the holes on the trails(as with all brands lifted).......So when you get the other stock brands with less ground clearance.......There Stuck!!...........Caper.........

My 450 foreman would need to be winched over to the spot where I get stuck now,no getting off and pushing it will get it that far down the mud run.
