The '01 and later will have easier steering than earlier models. No big changes other than the H.O. until '04. I think I'd take the older one with lower miles just because I like the 500 so much.

Went with the 99 with 1035 miles! $2500 sale price. We got $2200 for our 2006 Hawkeye 2x4 that we sold to get this 4x4. So we didn't do too bad.

I had a little scare as I was inspecting it....I had it lifted off the ground to check 4x4 function and in 2x4 all 4 wheels were spinning..... After panicking for about 10 minutes, I tried reverse in 2x4 and they didn't spin as much. I touched the front tire and it stopped. Same thing in forwards. There's just enough friction in 2x4 with all the wheels off the ground to spin the tires. 4x4 worked perfect! 4x4 is shift on the fly so long as the rear wheels aren't loose when you do it, correct?

Anyways, here's some pics:

Thumbs up

Looks like you got a good deal =) As for the 4x4, if I want to put it in I just let off the gas then switch it over. I just wld not throw her in 4x4 when on the gas. Good luck and have fun!

Looks good, remember you have to press the yellow button to have 4X4 in reverse.

That was EXACTLY the cause of it. That and Polaris oil sucks. It is not too bad IF and only IF you change it before they reccomend you change it. It breaks down far too quick.

Every single cam I have installed in Polaris 425 and 500 engines, and I have changed a bunch of them, were using Polaris oil and not changing it when they should.

Yes, I have since figured that out. The AWD light even shuts off if you don't. Pretty neat.

Whats the right most pod light that's blacked out? N/R, Temp Warning, then Black. Seems like on their top of the line model that would have a function...Was it oil for the 2-stroke models?

What oil do you guys recommend? I'll be doing a full oil change this week.

Do you guys have better luck with paper or foam elements in these? I live in MN, so I've always been a foam kind of guy, but this one currently has a paper with pre-filter.

I always liked the Polaris oil since its the right grade and Full synthetic, I use mostly Amsoil 0w-40 or mobil 1 0w-40 because stores closer then the dealer sell it everywhere.
Polaris does not make oil,for all we know Amsoil makes it for them.

Nothing special, right? Just plain Jane automotive quality 0W-40, full synthetic?

Don,t think motorcycle grade oil is that important on the Polaris since it has no wet clutches to worry about.

But for sure ONLY Full synthetic and 0W-40.
