Im having some trouble with my 02 sportsman700
I just got a 02 sportsman 700 a few months back. I went riding with my brother the first time and was in low gear and it started bogging at about 1/4 throttle really bad but not to where it wanted to die, below and above that are fine on the throttle. It also does this in high gear as well. My brother and I did a weekend ride on Barrett Lake Trail in the sierra's, he has a kawasaki prairie 650 V-twin with a 4.5 gal fuel tank and mine has a 4.75 gal fuel tank. On that trip I almost ran out of gas when he was at half a tank. This last week I pulled the carb off and cleaned it very good and changed the plugs (the ones in it were very dirty). I didnt touch the air filter yet but I am going to put in a K&N in it very soon, but the one in it looks clean. After I did the work I put it back together thinking that this was the problem and it still does it. I was wondering if any one has had this problem before or would have an idea on it what is causing it. Thanks Jeff

I was having same things go wrong with my sp450 while back. Did the carb clean like 3 times (well a buddy did) Changed the belt. Cld not fig it out...was going threw way to much gas, bogging all that fun "carb" symptons! had got some clutch buttons 1 yr ago, told my buddy lets give it a try. Put them in and all is well now. So check yur buttons. Put new ones in they are cheap!

Np! When you have it appart check yur helix also. If buttons where bad helix will take some damage. I got a new one when my friend put in my buttons. After looking at old one I think it cld have been cleaned up and it wld have worked ok. I forgot this was affter I did sparkplug change, carb boot, belt, carb clean and dip! And after all that it was the cheap buttons. Unreal right lol! Hope it is yur prob cuz it is a cheap and fast fix. Good luck let us know how it goes.

I believe th 02 Sportsman 700 does not have buttons, it should have rollers, according to the microfische. I installed buttons in my buddies 02 400 and figured I would do them on my 02 700 and the parts diagram showed rollers. Remove the carb and check for a sticky float or needle and seat. My 02 700 has .040 shim under the needle and 3 sizes larger on the main's. I have the 800 dual header and intake pipe and it runs great, I get at least as good of milage as my buddies 400 as we both get the same out of a tank of gas.

its the buttons in the secondary clutch pictured above is the primary, and i don't believe they went to the newer roller style clutch in 02, should have buttons in it, but it sounds like ur carb needs adjusted to me, make sure ur air/fuel screw is 2.5 turns out seen a lot of machines with them closed completely and they run just like what ur describing
