Reverse button lights up when trying to start

Reverse button lights up when trying to start
When I try and start my 2001 sportsman 500 HO, the reverse light on the dash lights up. That's all; starter doesn't spin, no clicking, and it will not start with the pull start. All wires and grounds are good and clean, and the battery is also good. Any thoughts....
