ADC issue..maybe

I took the 2010 X2 twins out on there first real adventure last week on our annual ride around the western moutains of Maine. At one point we were about to head down a pretty good slope of a hill and decided to try out the ADC. While at a stop I engaged the ADC. As I started to go down hill I let off on the gas and it appeard and felt like the front end was not engaging. There was the feeling of something not catching in the front gear. To avoid any possible damage I came to a stop. When my brother in law pulled up next to me, riding the exact same model, 2 serial #'s apart off the line, I asked him how the ADC worked for him. He was coming to a stop concerned as well as he experienced the exact same thing. Hmmmmm...
Now I have never used ADC before on these 2 machines or my 2008 X2 so I don't know what I should be feeling or hearing but..it for sure didn't feel right.
Can someome chime in and let me know or try to explain what there ADC feels like? It's possible that what I experienced is the norm but I have nothing to compare it to. Either they are both broke and the guy on the assembly that day forgot to do something or there is nothing wrong and the crunch..grind..ting..tang I have is ok.
To be safe and while they are both under warranty I dropped them both off at the dealer. The service manager took it for a quick ride and said it didn't feel right to him either but he also said he has never tried out a machine with ADC and really didn't know what it should feel like. I would think that ADC engaging should be seamless and nothing should be felt.
Thank you in advance for taking the time to respond.

ADC braking is the same as normal rear wheel engine braking only all 4 wheels are using engine compression. On a STEEP decline, speed shouldn't exceed about 4 mph in ADC and thats tops with no throttle. Try the hill with & without ADC and you;ll see that the rears will skid without ADC on. With, it'll be a slow, controlable descent.

Yes AWD and ADC on.

If memory serves me right you can't select ADC without being in AWD..in other words the switch has 3 postions..2wd...AWD...and AWD w/ADC.
To the OP as Mongrol said try it with and without on a hill..you can turn it on and off as you descend the hill and you should feel it slow down when you turn it on(kind of feels like a light application of the brakes) and speed up when you turn it off(like letting off a light application of the brakes). You must be completely off of the throttle and going less than 15 mph for it to activate.
