2003 700 Sportsman Alternator not charging
#1
Can someone tell me if there is a fuse inline or..for that matter...are there ANY fuse on my quad??? I haven't seen a fuse block but that doesn't mean there isn't one there (somewhere) LOL!!!
I finally got to ride my quad for the first time 2 nights ago. Axle issue resolved thanks to American CV Store. I have a 2003 NOT a 2002~~~
Anyway...when I took it for a test ride everything was OK but the battery icon started flashing. I put the battery on a charger overnight and took it out yesterday and it started doing the same thing.
I brought it home, put a DVM across the battery and I had 12.01V.
Revved the motor...12.01V, shut off the motor...12.01V. Alternator isn't gettin' to the battery!
Oh...I don't have a service book YET!!!
Thanks

there isn't any fuse for the recifier(regulator), but you might check to see if it's plugged in or corroded connection. the charging system is in the stator(no alternator). you should be pushing a good 13.5 volts when reving the bike on a fully charged battery.

Thank you very much!!! And Thanks to SammyDogs too! I would not have looked there for the rectifier! The red wire was unplugged!

I'm not sure if it's an issue, but I was getting around 14.5VDC with the engine revving at a very high idle.

Depending on build date, the 04 changed from the Ducati system to the reliable Kokusan complete system which included flywheel, stator cdi, coil, and new type reg/rectifier with necessary jumper kits for the regulator. Red wire on regulator has a funky split red connector that does plug into the matching connector. Not sure what you have, but if you have a coil pack instead of a separate cdi and coil and says DUCATI, system needs to be replaced or will cause problems. OPT
