Just ran the numbers and it turns out my 500 uses the same oil filter as my Nissan Altima 3.5, too easy. No reason not to stock up on some filters next time they go on sale.
Next oil change is definitely going to be Mobil 1 and a wix filter. No more paying 35 bucks plus tax for an oil change kit from the dealer anymore. Should be able to do it for 25 without a sale.

Hi all, new member so pardon any stupid questions. I have a 2004 sportsman 600 carb. Does it also have a separate oil tank, and does everything in this video apply to mine? (2 separate drain plugs, oil screen, priming pump, etc.)

Im thinking Im going to attempt this on my 05 400. It looks similar to the video. Only question I have is how do you know for sure you "primed" the oil pump?

If you don't remove the screen you don't need to prime the oil pump .

You have ONE drain plug under the engine. It takes a 6mm Allen wrench.

It holds 2 quarts. No priming no screen to clean.

the pdm is basically your regulator/ rectifier, and it distributes power to everything that needs power. and on a 600 you fill ur oil up through the dipstick tube, no tank to fill

would this procedure be the same for a 99-02 scrambler 500? both mine need a fluid change. ive managed to use walmart for all my toys up to this point. i was going to grab a couple fram filters and 0w-40 oil.

Oh, I was expecting a notification of reply. Perhaps I missed it. Thanks Overdrive. It's done.
Question 2, where is the darn oil filler? I ended up filling it through the dipstick and it was quite a bear. Please tell me I am just stupid and missed the filler hole?

500 Sportsmans and 500 Scrambler have the same motor,so you change the oil the same.
