Default when does it end

Im back with more questions about my 97 500 sp lol.well what started out as a rear brake job (that took 2 min)turned into a full maintence deconstruction. The starter all ways sounded awfull so I pulled the starter and made sure the brushes and armature were okay but the discovered that the bendix is in the pull cord case so off with that it came.found the inside was filthy of rust and metal shavings so its good I went ahead and got to this.one question is do you just remove the c-clip and disassemble the bendix stretch the spring an lube it up?I will clean the magneto off with a brush and brake clean. My lights will probaly be brighter now haha.Next the carb was leaking gas when sitting so I figured the float was stuck so I tryed to remove the carb but I couldnt get the choke cable off.I backed it out but it seems to be attached on the inside but Im not sure.also the float bowl screws were all boogered up by some slack *** so I tried to use a dremal tool and cut a slot for a flat head but they crumbled.I guess just grind them off and remove the thread and get some new screws right?thanks for any input.Good thing is I am getting pretty good at working on quads

I've never had good results taking bendix's apart, it seems that they just get wore out and just need replacing. The choke plunger sounds that it is seized in the hole ,you may need some penetrating oil in it good luck on your getting all the bugs worked out of it

so your saying that I just unscrew the choke cable on the carb and it should pull out?

Yes choke cable just unscrews an pulls out, throttle cable you have to take the cover off and unhook cable from throttle lever inside If you removethe airbox you cangrt enough slack in the cables to movre the carbback where the airbox was and clean it there, the needle and seat are are worn thats why its leaking gas, replace them while its apart, start turning the gas off when not in use and the new one will last longer

well I fixed the bendix, hope it last.I took it apart and 1 of the 3 moon shaped weights had come turned in there so I cleaned it all up stretched the spring a little and shazam no more clattering and positive engagement every time.I will hit the carb and test the belt housing seal for leaks after this weekends ride.trying to get this puppy trailworthy so I can come visit some of you guys upnorth and do some snow riding.we dont see much snow down here in SC>
