Default Dive Clutch Bearings – Anyone ever replace them? (’05 SP 400 & 500 EBS)

I have a 2005 SP 400 & 2005 SP 500 both with EBS and 3,000 miles on each machine. I am in the process of evaluating my clutch for wear and in the service manual it indicates that the bearings need to be replaced if the Teflon coating is more than 50% worn off. Well… I’m beyond that and on the Drive clutch it is more like 90-95% worn off, plus it seems kind-a loose from the worn bearings (Driven clutch only about 30% worn off and still fairly tight). At first I was wanting to change these bearings myself, but the cost of the tools does not make it very attractive and I could almost buy a new clutch for all the tools I would need to purchase. I went to my local Polaris dealer to see what they would charge and they do not have the tools either and would be afraid of cracking the magnesium clutch if they did have the tools. Have you guys ever ran into this? Have you ever replaced drive clutch bearings? Any advice you can offer me? Thanks for your help guys!!!

im guessing your talking about the bushings, not bearings, they're not that bad to replace at all. it does help to have the right tools to do it. but honestly i think you could do it without em.

I do have the holding fixture and spider tool, but its the removal of the bushings/bearings that's the issue. Those tools were a bit expensive. I did talk to another Polaris dealer and they said they could do the brearings/bushings with labor at $65/hr. The 2 bearings/bushings in question is the one in the cover plate and the other in the piece that also contains the towers where the buttons slide. All I have is a hammer & punch to tap the bearings/bishing out and replace them. Thanks again for your responses!

it should only take them half hour to an hour per clutch to do it i'd say that it would be worth it to take it to the dealer, unless u plan on doing this more often, then i'd say get the tools to do it
