Default Fan temp sensor?

When I purchased my 700 V-Twin the guy I bought it from said the fan quit running so he ran new wires from the fan to the battery so the fan would whenever the key is on. I don't like this set up because I feel it is a drain on my new battery. Is there a temperature sensor that I could replace that would probably fix the problem or could it be just bad wiring?
Thanks, Elk Hunter

I know the fan on my two Sportsman 450's(2006 models) are controlled directly through the ECM module(Sure Power Industries box).......Heck my fan was running once even sitting stone cold in the yard with the key not even in the Quad.......LOL...Caper....

That`s caused by a bad module that controls the fan, we have had this happen twice on one of our 2006 450`s.

ya he knows. thats why he's had to replace 3 of the ecm's lol. if the fan was wired up correctly and w/ the key on, you should be able to unplig the sensor and the fan should automaticly come on. you come try testing the sensor to see if it's working. imo

Sensor on the 700 is in lower right hand corner of radiator, can replace with a Wells #SW 526 from your local parts store, may have to cut the plug off the old one and splice into the new one,I did this on an 03-700 worked fine. By the way your 700 is not a V twin its a parrelel twin

Left side of the cylinder.FAN HEAT SENSOR SWITCH FOR POLARIS SPORTSMAN 450 4x4 2006-2007 | eBay You can test the resistance on the sensor when cold and when hot between the two wire plug.If working properly resistance should drop when hot. This sensor sends the signal to the ecm(which has the fan switch inside) to turn the fan on and off. If you've tested that the fan motor is working ok and the sensor switch is ok,then could be a problem on that new ecm module.Hopefully just the switch.

Yes i found the sensor finally after looking around the radiator for an hr, unhooked wires and rehooked, HOT came off the display until i rode it around for 5 mins, back to work i go. So if i take that sensor out the fan should kick on if its wired correctly? Or if new ecm is functioning properly? Im beginning to think new ecm is a bust!!!
