ignition issue

97 500 no spark.I have a service manual and am testing the ignition system but I cant find out why I have voltage on the blu and white wire with the key off or on.Shouldnt it pulse power to the coil when you turn it over so it knows when to fire?I think I have a stator problem because im supposed to have like 446 ohms on 2 wires and I dont but Im curiose about the coil wire staying hot.

come on guys I really need some help on this one.I replaced the stator and now I have spark but it want run.The spark is pulsing but I dont know if you have to adjust the pick up or the timing some how.Im stumped.also I pulled the line going to the carb and turned it over and it is pumping.any help would be great, thanks

This is gonna sound funny but it does give an indication sometimes on stator failures. Most of the failures I have seen on these machines is due to a burned out coil. Pull the recoil out and smell, yes smell, the rope. If it smells like burned electrical components, it probably has a burned out coil. It will smell kinda like overheated brakes or sliiping a clutch. Now mind you checking it with an ohmeter is the correct way to determine whether it is bad or not. Whenever I see a 500 SPTMN with no spark, I always check to see if the rope smells like burnt electrical. If it does, then focus on it first. That has saved me lots of diagnostic time in the past. I know it sounds really strange, but if you have ever tried it on a unit that has a bad stator, it does indicate a problem, without the use of any special tools. I'm not crazy-serious!!! You guys at shops, try it out next time.

I hear ya about the smelling,I wire up control panels for a liven and know that smell very well.lol.this is a new stator im working with but I have seen bad new parts before. The old one was open on the green and red/black and had no spark the new one is 370 when its supposed to be 644ohms with a spark so I guess I will take it up with the vendor on Mon.also some one told me to remove the black wire from the cdi box that does away with all the safety features .thanks for the input

You say it this post that there IS spark? If you remove the black wire from the cdi it will elimnate grounding of it so if you had a problem elsewhere in the system it should spark and run but you would not be able to shut it off with the key or habdlebar switch. Remove it, see what happens. While your in there remove the black wire from the reverse limiter box as well. They can cause a no spark condition too.
Duh- I should have read your 2nd post. My bad. Oh well. Did you buy an aftermarket stator or OEM? If it has spark your pulse coil is reading the tab on the flywheel so i don't think it needs bent.

1st off thank you so much for your help.as it sits it has spark.I sprayed some starter fluid in the carb and and turned it over and fire came out of the carb.it seems to be shooting out the eather.I noticed when I give it a little shot and yes I mean just a little shot it blows it back out so I thought the intake valves might be stuck open so I pulled the valve cover and everything seems to opening and closeing evenly.I thought maybe the cylinder was fuel washed so I put a cap of oil down the spark plug hole and turned it over slowly then reinstalled the plug and nothing.I swear it acts like timing but I changed nothing but the stator and its a direct bolt on plugnplay.im so freakin stumped and I just dont want to throw parts at it but maybe the cdi is given it the wrong timing or something I just dont know
you figure it out and I will mail you a $50 check lol

When you had the valve cover off did you check the exhaust cam lobe real good? They would wear off and not allow the unit to run. they also caused a backfire through the carb. Did you replace the plug? Maybe it fouled out while it had no spark, trying to get it to run?
