Default Questions for Hawkeye owners

Hi, I'm a new ATV rider and just purchased my first machine; a used but clean 2007 Hawkeye 2x4.

I have just a couple of quick questions;

1. The manual (and specs I've read online) state that the Hawkeye has high and low beam headlights...but I can't seem to find how you are supposed to switch between them. My lights just seem to have an on/off position on the switch.

2. The riding I am planning to do will be mostly trails and forest roads. I've been riding with my folks on some old jeep trails with some pretty gnarly rocks; does anyone make full skid plates for the Hawkeye? Or are they really that necessary?

3. Has anyone found a tire MFG that sells stock size tires? Or should I just jump to 24" or 25" when the time comes?

4. Anyone who has done the clutch roller modification; is it better to just remove the two opposing rollers or get the lightweight roller set and replace the heavier rollers? Does one have advantages over the other? I am in Arizona, most of the riding I will do is going to be at a range of 3000' to 6000'

5. Any must-have accessories I should be on the lookout for?

Thanks!

1) My 06 only has an on/off for the lights
2) I had the dealer include a skid plate with the purchase and it was a great add.
3&4 I can not comment on as mine is still stock.
5) The only adds I have other than the skid plate is the front rack bar for my rifle and rear rack bar to tie the deer on.

Hello Gizzmotech,

1. on/off only for the Hawkeyes (the manual has some generic stuff in it that covers all their bikes)

2. Skid plates can't hurt if you plan on riding in rough rocky terrain. A few companies out there make full skids for the Hawkeye.Just do a google search.

3.I'd suggest going to 24" or 25" tires when time comes. Allot more choices to suit your type of riding.
However 25" tires will rub in the rear on hard bumps.

4. What rollers (color) do you have in your Hawkeye right now? I had red (high altitude) in mine with stock tires...changed to low altitude (yellow) and left out 2 opposing rollers when I went to 25" tires...needed to make up for loss in low end power.

5. What ever you find that you think you can't live without!!!

If you do a search on the Hawkeye, there is a mod about drilling out the carb slide for a little more bottom end. Once I am thru with my AC project, I am going to replace my rollers, do a dyno jet kit and a K&N filter. Not much else to be done to them. I not looking for anymore speed, just a little more bottom power. I really like the 25 in Mudlites on mine.

It doesn't give you more bottom end...Gives you quicker throttle response.

Thanks for the tips guys. Definitely going to crack the clutch one of these days and take a look at the rollers, seems like an easy mod, and better at the altitude I'll be riding at.

The original tires look to have about 3/8" of tread left, so I may leave those until Fall or so. Found a few brands doing 24" tires, may go that route so I don't have to worry about rubbing.

How much extra power do mods like a K&N filter and Dynojet kit really give? Is it very noticable?

Also, anyone have any ideas on a good way to mount a GPS on a Hawkeye? I'm curious if anyone has ever tried it on one...
