polaris shock bushing
#1
I have a 99 polaris sportsman. I had the tire off and noticed that the ruber bushing on the rear shocks are completly deteriorated. I have talked to the polaris dealership and they told me that this part is not available, and that I need to buy an entire new shock. Does anyone know where I purchase new bushings or have any ideas of what else I can use to replace them. PLEASE HELP

welcome to the forum. don't see any bushing listed(most likely a part of the shock from the factory)in the parts break down. don't know if you can buy any type bushing from a car auto parts store to make something up to fit??

I was at the local auto parts store the other day and saw a display of these...polyurethane, felt tough! Looks like they'd have something that would fit.

I would say call around to your local machine shops and see if any of them have any UHMW (ultra high molecular weight) plastic (it's very similar to polyurethane but a little harder) and see what it would cost for them to turn you a bushing on the lathe out of that. It's really good stuff. It's kinda expensive, but I'm sure if they can do it it'll be much cheaper than a new shock
Or they might have urethane stock they can make you one out of too... Just call around and let them know what you're trying to do and they would probably be more than happy to help you out.

x2 If they're original just replace em... It'll ride so much better than it does now on 12 yr old shocks

I ended up buying bushings that go where the a arm and the bearing carrier bolt together. It is the same diameter but they are to long so I had to cut them down, but thy fit perfect. I probably should buy new shocks but for a quick 25 dollar fix it will work for now.
