Default Main needle settings??

What do the different clips on the main needle do? What is the difference between the top and bottom settings? What does the needle do? I'm trying to learn as much as I can about atv carbs so I can make my own adjustments and help out my buddies, so any info would be greatly appreciated amongst all of us!

the needle meters the amount of gas at differnt throttle heights. the higher the needle(by pushing the throttle)the more gas. by raising or lowering the clip sets the amount of gas flow when throttle is pushed making it run leaner or richer. imo

Thanks! so if I understand what you're saying and somewhat comprehend the searching I've been doing by moving the clip down on the needle will make the bike run richer from about 1/4 to 3/4 throttle as long as the main jet is of sufficient size and the main jet flows free at wot correct?
