Default HOT Message on speedometer

I have an 06 Sportsman 450. Last few times I have been riding, after a stretch of about five miles or so I'll shut the machine off, then turn the key back on, and the HOT indicator shows on speedometer. The fan runs fine, and the coolant seems to be raising and lowering as needed. I'm thinking its electrical because it only seems to come on after I shut the machine off then turn key back on? It did however come on once while riding, but I noticed the coolant was still cold, but fan running. Coolant temp sensor? Any clues? Thanks.

have you had the recall done for the ecm yet? chances are the emc is getting bad and they had a maasive recall to replace them. just have your local dealer run the vin# to check.

Could be temp sensor shorting out or the ecm could be acting up(even though the2006 models weren't on the recall list,I've had to replace a few of em?? They are still the same Chinese modules. OPT

ECM was replaced for the recall about two years ago.

YEP the 450 was! Didn't sell or service many of these. I replaced several I KNOW weren't on the list! There are still a bunch out there that have the Chinese ecms, my opinion they will all fail sooner or later, plus I've replaced several of the American made ones too. Never ending story! OPT

Is there any warranty on the replacement ECMs? I'm sure they're a pricey part.

If the dealer has already filed a claim as you said, then if it is the ecm failure again,he can get another one authorized, I did several again and had no problem getting an authorization,BUT I think its coming down to if you have a good dealer who will help you and not try to charge you for the second one! Back when we did all the replacements mainly on the 05 models,I think the warranty cost was around 125 bucks(no cost to customer),but don't know what they might charge now for full retail?? OPT

like mentioned caper(another memeber w/ 2 06'450's) had had 3 of the ecm's on one bike under warranty. but he also has a good dealer who worked w. him in canada. like otp said it all depends onhow good your dealer wants to be for sure.
