When Polaris removed the recoil assembly and just used a blank recoil cover, the noise radiates through the cover a lot more than the older models with the plastic reel, rope and other parts. You're hearing a lot more cam chain, flywheel noise plus noise radiating down. This was the first thing I noticed when they came out! (cost cutting!!) Possible to remove cover and try to insulate with automotive stereo noise barrier sheet or I even though of spray foam??? Haven't tried either way, DON'T know if would stay secure and not get into flywheel or stator area! OR you could spring for a complete recoil assembly (over 200 + dollars) and also have the backup recoil in case battery gets low. OPT
