I wish I could ride mine as much as you. I have under 3000 miles on my 2003 600. I guess if I look at the positive, my machine could last another 16 years.....LOL

I always wondered just how long the 425 and 500 engine would run if it was serviced properly.

No matter what some people may think these engines are two of the best ever made.

BEST engines that Polaris have made! And I worked on a bunch of em. If I had one or two at home I would have liked to have an old 96 425 Magnum and the latest 500 H.O.(but I would install a recoil instead of the blank cover) TOUGH bottom ends, car like oil pumps, valves that almost never need adjustment (with regular oil and filter changes and greasing) Ball joint wear about the only major weakness. Again just my old opinion! OPT

Most I've seen was a 2000 model around 7000 miles and pretty ragged out,but customer brought it in every time he broke something. Was a ranch machine and driven by every one with little or no regular maintenance. Still held up pretty well considering how it was treated. As far as comparing the 500 to all the other 700s,800s and the 850,this engine was a simple, strong, work horse and the only major problems were the early model cams and the suck azz ecm recall which affected all carb models! Will always be my favorite engine! OPT

Sledding is my first sport I have a 2002 Polaris Indy 700 XC SP. Kinda makes you laugh on this site when people talk about how fast or powerful there ATVs are when you compare them to the snowmobile world.

I'd rather sled than atv also but with the sled season being so short I needed a atv to get me though the long summer months , while I'm waiting for it to snow I started sledding in 96 have bought 6 new machines and have done about 75,000 km in that time .

91 617 Mach ( used )
97 F111 new
99 MXZ 670 HO new
02 MXZ 800 new
04 MXZ 800 new
06 MXZX 800 new
11 MXZX 1200 4 stroke new

Hard to believe that in all those years of you working on Polaris machines that I put more miles on a 08 in alittle over 3 years .
