Default Found a Great Little Scrambler Steering Fix

I found this on the GEN3USA.com forum, it is so good I have to post it. This solves the unhealthy play in steering when the upper steering bushing goes bad on Polaris Scrambler 500s.

There's a link to a crude little video of how I did the fix.

Nice find, I'll have to remember this when mine go bad. Are those sway bar mounts for a specific vehicle or are they just universal?

They are universal and besides the grinding to make them slide in they are a perfect fit. Just make sure you get the right size for your steering stem (1" or 7/8"). I found mine at O'Reilly Auto Parts and they were the same brand everyone on GEN3USA.com was using. The material is so much better than the stock. I can't wait to see how much more of the trail shock they absorb.

Do the Energy Suspension bushings have a split in them? or did you put one in it? or can they be put on without cutting anything? I haven't looked at the top of my steering rod to see if/how it comes off. On the mircrofisch it looks like the oem bushing is actually two peices to me. Just wondering how all that works before I get the parts to replace mine.

They come cut on one side, you can kind of see the split on one side in the video when I kind of pushed the bushing apart with my thumb. The material is very dense, but just flexible enough to open and slip over the steering stem. It is a tight fit but I did it without taking anything more that the two bolts that hold the original bushing in place off. The only altering you will need to do to the piece is to grind the mount down a bit other than that the tight fit is all that will really be a challenge (esp if you have big hands), but it is totally doable.

Highly recommend this fix for all Scrambler owners, especially if you ride rocky mountain trails.

We must have a different definition of redneck. When I think redneck, I think coat hangers, duct tape, and things like that.

Default Drove it today!

I had a chance to get my Scrambler out today with my boys and put around on some dirt. The new steering bushing was awesome! Steering is tight and smooth, it wasn't even stiff. I thought there would be some break in period, NOT, no extra work at all, if anything it is easier.

Make the switch,

You forgot bailing wire and bubble gum on your list! (at least in Texas)
Does sound like the bushings are a good replacement for the hard ridden Scramblers! OPT
