WOW that's probably a bit further than I plan on going with cleaning and lubing my chain between rides But how are the silkolene and the PJ1 on "slinging off" up onto the frame and plastics? I wouldn't have ever questioned it if they wouldn't have said anything, but I want to make this chain last as long as possible. The Maxima lube seems to be working fine and it doesn't seem to hold as much dirt on the chain as the wax did but, I can't really tell how well it's lubricating unless I was to take it apart and inspect each link for wear and sealing ring damage.

Silkolene "sticks" a little better in my opinion (lubes ALL sling a little) and this is what I used the most of in the shop.Comes down to almost like the heated discussions on "engine oil preference"!! It's what YOU think is best too for the way you ride! Brought a can home with me when I retired for the old Honda! OPT

I hear ya on the engine oil discussion I'm not really lookin to start something like that, but more so wondering if there's something that I should NOT use. I've owned several offroad machines over my life and almost all (except for an 81 ct70) were shaft drive, so I never had to worry about the chain. I always used either WD-40 or motoroil on my little 70. I just want to make sure that I'm not hurting my chain while I think I'm taking good care of it by using any certain chain treatment.

Almost wanna say 80-90 gear oil along with a good supply of chain cleaner after every water use!!
This is actually what my old 92 Honda owners manual specifies!! (before the days of the advanced synthetic chain lubes) OPT

Some people still use plain old motor oil I know, and I've heard an ear full of pros and cons on WD-40 over the years, some say will swell o-rings,others swear by it. Never actually saw any chain myself that o-rings were swelled or falling off,but it is a petroleum distillate and removes water, lubes rusty parts, and says on the can lubricates chains,BUT there no mention of rubber parts(at least on the can I just read!) On an expensive o-ring chain I just wouldn't take any chances on,and would use a recommended lubricant! Mainly because the lubes cheaper than a chain and I'm getting cheap in my old age! OPT
