Nasty Recoil Knocking, 2008 sportsman 300
I have a knocking, noise on my 2008 sportsman 300, sounds like its comin from the Recoil pull start area? Before, it was a nasty friction kind of sounding, like things were grinding, i added some polaris Oil in there, it stopped, then a week later, it started back in, the Oil level is fine, i added more oil in recoil housing as i did a week earlier, now it just makes a knocking noise, At idle speeds, and Pings when you give it gas. Any input on how to stop this?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Welcome to the form! First off NO OIL goes in the recoil housing!! The plug at the top is for checking ignition timing. The grinding noise could be from worn or broken recoil parts, starter bendix parts that could be loose in the flywheel area. Remove the recoil and see if there is any small parts floating around and clean any oil from around this area and check around flywheel area. OPT

opened it up, found a broken bolt that came out, no head on it, two other parts, and had to tighten the flywheel? down, very loose. put it back together, doesnt make noises anymore, but i got two extra parts outa there, they was just laying in the recoil housing outer case, we couldnt find where they went, but its fixed now thank you very much for your help!
